Melissa is a painter and art educator, with a Bachelor of Art Education from the City Art Institute*, Sydney and an MFA from Bath Spa University. She has taught art at both Secondary and Further Education levels. Mark-making, and the materiality of the paint itself, have always been central to her painting practice, exploring the boundaries of control and chance. In recent years, her work has transformed dramatically from almost monochromatic figurative images based on vintage photography, to intensely coloured gestural abstraction. Earlier this year she had two solo shows: “Throwing Shapes” at Pound Arts, Corsham, and “Vivid”, at Burdall’s Yard, Bath. Two of her works are currently on show at the Sulis Hospital Bath.
