Steve Roberts is an internationally selling contemporary landscape artist currently living and working in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire. Steve has a BA in Fine Art from the Cardiff School of Art where he graduated in 2012 and an MA in Illustration from the University of Gloucestershire graduating in 2021.

Steve has exhibited extensively throughout Gloucestershire and in South Wales. He has been represented by Art Cotswold and has had his work selected for several open call shows.


Description of Work

My practice focuses on using the landscape as a conduit for expressing a connection to place and the experience of the present moment. Going out into the landscape and experiencing that environment first hand is how all my work begins its life. It is vital that I work en plein air to engage with the continual changes in weather, light quality and atmosphere found within the landscape.

Exaggerated colour, loose mark making and the interplay of textures are the aspects of painting which I feel the greatest connection to. I utilise these qualities of paint to create artworks which evoke the feeling of a place rather than a literal depiction.
